Gautam heads the Firm’s disputes practice in Mumbai and has over two decades of experience across varied across sectors. Gautam is well regarded and recognized his cross-border disputes representing clients including multinational financial institutions in recovery actions, asset trace and freezing over assets of debtors both in first instance cases and enforcement of judgement debts. Gautam has worked across continents in various jurisdictions including Europe, South East Asia, Middle East and Africa and US. Some the Banks Gautam has represented in the recovery actions across the globe are Antwerp Diamond Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, ICICI Bank-Bahrain, HDFC Bank. China Merchants Bank, Sber Bank of Russia, Promsvyazbank, National Bank of Fujairah, Malayan Bank, Dubai Islamic bank, Islamic Investment Company Ltd-Bahamas.

Gautam’s practice focuses on infra and construction disputes in transportation sector. He advises clients on a wide range of disputes involving construction and infrastructure, marine & shipping matters, insurance claims and investigations, civil disputes, shareholders’ disputes, commercial contracts, enforcement of security, recovery of debts, bankruptcy, regulatory and fraud and economic offences.

Gautam has represented clients in their commercial disputes across all Indian Courts and arbitrations. On cross border disputes Gautam has been representing Clients before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and regularly represents and advises on matters before the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), London Maritime Arbitration Association (LMAA), and Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA).

Gautam advises on international trade disputes, disputes on offshore energy projects, constructions and infrastructure projects both onshore and offshore, roads and highways, airports and ports sector etc. Additionally, Gautam regularly advises shipowners and P&I, H&M, cargo owners, ports and terminals, insurers and re-insurers. Additionally, Gautam is widely regarded as the go to lawyer on admiralty matters in relation to charterparty and bills of lading claims, bunker supplies, mortgage claims, damage caused by operation, salvage and towage, etc.

Gautam also represents some of the largest insurers and reinsurers on all aspects of advisory relating to high value and complex claims, investigations and disputes on liability insurance, property insurance and other business insurance. He regularly advises clients on high value and multi-jurisdictional claims and investigations. Gautam also represents and advises insurance companies and intermediaries on regulatory matters including representations before the sector regulator, the IRDAI.
